Jardín del Edén Restaurant

The Jardín del Edén (Garden of Eden) restaurant, the only one of its kind in Cuba, offers traditional Jewish dishes. It is set inside a glamorous eclectic building with romantically decorated interiors where Art Nouveau is the predominant style. The restaurant is next to Lejaim lobby bar whose name is a Hebrew word that refers to a toast to life.

Its cooking tradition is closely linked to certain religious requirements and kosher rules, such as the prohibition of eating pork meat or any by-products and seafood, excluding fish with scales and fins. The Jardín del Edén was designed as part of the hotel’s decoration project, hence the screens dividing the lobby into segments. Blue predominates on the screens as a color of paramount importance in the ancient Hebrew culture, as well as some traditional symbols, such as the Star of David and the Menorah or sacred 7-branched candelabra.
Raquel Hotel, where this restaurant is set inside, is located on one of the corners of Amargura street, not far from the Old and St. Francis of Assisi Squares, and other areas like Las Carolinas garden, dedicated to contemporary dance.
The building now occupied by this hotel, which dates from 1905, was originally home to offices and a fabric warehouse.
