Habaguanex S.A., a tourist company founded on 6 January 1994 by the City Historian’s Office, opens its doors to let us get a feeling of Old Havana, its history, its people, its culture and its most deep-rooted traditions. Habaguanex is the governing organization for a wide hotel and out-of-hotel network and has been chosen to provide our visitors with an unforgettable Cuban experience in the heart of Old Havana.
This Company and its Travel Agency San Cristóbal are known for being both witnesses and leading parties in the renovation of the Historic Centre, designated by UNESCO as a world heritage site in 1982. Therefore, using their income to the benefit of the restoration work carried out by the City Historian’s Office and witnessing the rebirth of centuries gone by has become the greatest pride of Habaguanex.(Further reading)
This company specializes in three major business areas: hotel management, catering and trading. Its strategy is based on promoting a diverse tourist product and is committed to efficiency and creative exploitation of a peculiar environment characterized by an intense cultural life. Turned into a rapidly expanding tourist area, with a highly professional work force as its main asset, it now has 20 hotels, and 25 restaurants more than 56 Cuban convertible peso coffee shops and 5 Cuban peso coffee shops in the out-of-hotel area. There is also La Maestranza amusement park for children, Ensueño (Daydream) gentlemen’s /ladies’ hairdresser’s and a gym to be opened soon. The hotel area has 9 international food restaurants and 3 restaurants which specialize in a particular cuisine. Two joint ventures - D’Leone wholesale trading company and Hotel Saratoga, the latter being managed by Habaguanex itself - are part of the company, which also has its own travel agency named San Cristóbal. Tourist activities in the Historic Centre are inserted in a comprehensive restoration project to ensure citizens’ involvement through job generation and improvement of their living conditions.
